Intel Data Center Adopts Solar Power

Intel Corp. recently installed a 10-kilowatt soar power installation just outside of its manufacturing plant in New Mexico. While the array of over 60 solar panels will provide juice directly into the local electricity grid Intel hopes they can eventually install solar panels to directly augment the roughly 5,000 servers at the facility to help provide power during peak hours of demand.

The 10-kilowatt solar power project cost Intel $200,000 and represents what will likely be a continued investment in solar power as the company moves towards finding ways to conserve energy and exploit stable power.

Intel had previously installed a 100-kilowatt photovoltaic system in Oregon at the cost of $800,000. Another sign that the company is serious about getting as off the grid as possible as soon as possible.
