World’s Largest Solar Power Cooling System

The piano manufacturer Steinway and Sons has just installed the largest solar powered rooftop cooling system in the world. The $875,000 system is designed to suck the moisture out of the air to keep the pianos nice and dry.

The project’s financing was assisted though a grant from the New York State and Energy Research and Development Authority and obviously the federal tax credits.

The won’t be finished for several months still but will work by using solar power to heat water that then gets run through a heat exchanger. The removal of heat from the water creates cool, dry air. This air is perfect for the Steinway and Sons facility since it provides the right conditions for constructing pianos.
