Tuvalu To Be 100% Solar Nation

Tuvalu is a tiny island nation in the Pacific ocean. It’s only three feet above sea level, so rising oceans mean disaster for the 12,000 inhabitants of this tropical island. There have been evacuation plans in place for the entire population if climate change continues to cause rising waters. At its highest, Tuvalu is only 4.5 m above sea level, and could be one of the first nations to experience the effects of sea level rise caused by climate change. Not only could parts of the island be flooded, the rising saltwater table could destroy deep rooted food crops such as coconut and taro.

With the help of the NGO e8 and the Japanese government, Tuvalu has begun installing the first 40 KW of what is to be the first entirely solar powered nation by 2020.
